The deer stalking level 1 certificate is without a doubt a very important qualification to hold for people looking to secure deer stalking leases or syndicate places. The Deer Management Groups (DMG's) of Scotland are taking the initiative and organising sponsored not for profit courses to encourage people to undertake the DSC1 course and promote a better understanding or deer, deer stalking and large game hygiene included as part of the training.

South Lanarkshire Deer Group of the Central Belt in Scotland have just announced the latest ultra value sponsored DSC1 course and at £200 including assessments and lunches it's a bargain all round but limited places are available! This announced course also includes FREE pre-course reading materials and FREE use of an estate rifle for those without their rifle or firearms certificate.

In the big picture Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) who are the body responsible for wild deer in Scotland are keeping a keen eye on the situation relating to the voluntary uptake of the DSC1 qualifications. This proactive approach by DMG's that recognise the importance of this uptake such as South Lanarkshire Deer Group have taken it upon themselves to address the uptake of the qualification so that fingers crossed at the next review in 2016 the positive engagement by stalkers toward this will mean no changes in law will be considered to make it mandatory.
